Porcelain Crowns

A dental crown, often called a cap, is needed to restore beauty, durability and function to a tooth. Dental crowns are often indicated when a tooth is badly broken down, either a cusp has broken off, or there are large old fillings or a large portion of decay. The dental crown covers the entire tooth like a cap and is permanently bonded to the tooth.

In situations where aesthetics are of importance i.e. front teeth, we can use metal free crowns and bridges, which are colour matched to your existing teeth. These restorations are usually made of either E.max Layered (anterior teeth), E.max or Zirconia Monolithic (posterior teeth). They are extremely aesthetic, as they allow light to pass as a normal tooth would and that gives a natural look.

At Confident Smile Studio in Algodones, Mexico we don’t like to do Metal Crowns mainly for two big reasons:

1) There is now way to replicate nature when there is metal underneat the porcelain, metal cores block the light, it completely changes the way the light reflects and retracts from the porcelain.

2) With the exception of titanium, the human body does not like to have metal surrounding sensitive gum tissue, plus it has electrical conductivity which can lead to hot/cold sensations.

Placing Porcelain Crowns:

The Procedure

Placing porcelain crowns will take two visits at Confident Smile Studio in Algodones, Mexico. During the first visit, Dr. Danilo Gaspar, or one of our other experienced cosmetic dentists, will remove the decayed tooth material and reshape the tooth to accept the crown. Afterwards, they will take an impression of your tooth and place a temporary crown over it.

The temporary crown, made of composite resin, will ensure that the damaged tooth doesn’t move and that there is no further wear to the tooth structure while the permanent crown is being prepared.

When your porcelain crowns are ready to be placed, you will again visit our practice. We will remove the temporary crowns and replace them with the permanent ones. Before cementing them in place, the Dr will check to make sure the shapes and colours of your new porcelain crowns are consistent with your surrounding teeth. After undergoing this treatment, not only will your bite be stronger and healthier, but also the appearance of your smile will be improved.

At Confident Smile Studio, porcelain crowns are not the only options for aesthetically restoring broken, cracked, or misaligned teeth. We also offer dental implants, white fillings, bridges, and porcelain veneers as options for repairing damaged teeth
